COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school basketball Monday night, Coldwater improved to 12-2 with a 66-55 victory over Charlotte. The Cardinals built a 29-21 halftime lead. The Orioles trimmed the lead to 47-43 entering the fourth quarter but Coldwater outscored Charlotte 19-12 in the final stanza to seal the win.
Four Cardinals finished in double figures. Gage McGuire led Coldwater with 22 points. Cole Targgart added 19 points while Cameron Barnes had 11 points and Dylan Targgart had 10 points.
Coldwater won the JV game 56-43 as they notched their third straight victory and ninth out of their last ten. Ryan Murphy paced the Cardinals with 19 points. Tyler Scherer contributed 11 points and eight rebounds,
The Cardinals also took the freshman game, beating Charlotte 55-48. Noah Waterbury and Grey Skudlarick each scored 13 points.
Olivet 80, Quincy 60
The Orioles could not overcome Olivet’s hot shooting as they hit 10 triples. The Orioles were led by William Dunn with 20 points, 15 rebounds and two assists. Bryce Ruhl had nine points and six rebounds while Drew Deaton and Caleb McCavit each chipped in 9 points. Nathan Karney had 10 assists, five rebounds and four steals.
Girls Basketball—
Coldwater 52, Bronson 33
Coldwater jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated Branch County rival Bronson 52-33. The Cardinals are now 12-3 while the Vikings dropped to 11-4.
Co-McDonald’s Player of the Game Tyler Scheid led Coldwater with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double/double of the season. Carlee Crabtree had 11 points and four assists while Malorie Rzepka had 10 points, five assists and three steals.
Co-McDonald’s Player of the Game Payton Robinson led Bronson with 17 points which included four triples.
Coldwater beat Bronson in the J.V. game 49-32 bringing their record to 6-10. Autumn Sunderland led Coldwater with 12 points. Kelsi Herlan added eight points while Jayda Kelly led the team in rebounds with seven.

Union City’s 8th grade girls basketball team lost to Jonesville 34-17. Hannah Blair led Union City with eight points.
