COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A natural gas leak west of the Four Corners in downtown Coldwater forced the evacuation of some nearby buildings Tuesday morning.
The gas leak was reported just after 8:00 a.m. Coldwater Police says it took place after a gas meter behind the Executive Suites at 20 West Chicago was struck and damaged.
At least a half dozen Coldwater Fire and Police vehicles were at the scene along with a Michigan Gas technician.
The leak was stopped at about 8:45 a.m. and the situation was called under control minutes later.
The repairs to the gas line will require part of the parking lot to be dug up.
The Randall Plaza parking lot northwest of the downtown four corners was closed off and police had to shut down North Monroe between U.S. 12 and the Goodie Shop for a short time.
