JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys basketball team hopes to strengthen their hold on first place in the Interstate 8 this evening as they’ll play at Jackson Northwest. The Cardinals are 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the Interstate 8. They have won 10 out of their last 11 games. Coldwater defeated Northwest 70-40 on January 6th.
Tonight’s game will be the second half of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader at Northwest. Coverage here on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB will start at 5:30 p.m.
Union City will host Concord on Hall of Fame Night. The Chargers are 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big 8. The second Union City Hall of Fame class will be inducted before the varsity game. Being inducted this year are Debbie Merchant Grooman, Don Ashdown, John Miller, James Kingsley and Joe Tinervia.
Quincy hopes to keep their Big 8 title hopes alive at Springport. The Orioles are 7-1 in the conference and 10-4 overall after Olivet snapped their five game winning streak on Monday night.
Bronson will be looking to end a three game losing streak as they will host Mendon. The Vikings are 4-11.
In boys basketball on Thursday night..
Tekonsha 57, Colon 40
Anthony Layne had 19 points to lead Tekonsha while Andy Galliers had 11 points and Calvin Blue had 10 points. The Indians are now 7-8.
Hillsdale 60, Dundee 48
The Coldwater junior varsity boys squad lost in overtime to visiting Jackson Northwest 56-53. The Cardinals saw four players reach double figures with Austin Roby leading the way with 14 points. Erik Corona had 13 points while both Ryan Murphy and Bryce Lafferty had 11 points. The Cardinals stand at 9-6.
Girls Basketball—
Coldwater has only lost to two teams this season and they will face one of those teams tonight at Jackson Northwest. The Cardinals lost to the Mounties on January 6th 58-47. Coldwater has won seven of eight. They are 12-3 overall and 6-3 in the Interstate 8. After tonight, Coldwater will close out the regular season with four straight home games.

Springport 46, Quincy 40 (OT)
Quincy’s five game winning streak ended as they lost at Springport in overtime 46-40. They lost to the same team that had beaten them by 32 points on January 6th. The Orioles used a 12-6 fourth quarter to send the game into overtime but Springport outscored Quincy 6-0 in the extra period. Allison Parshall led the Orioles with 14 points while Hannah Economou had nine points and 17 rebounds including 11 on the defensive boards.
The Orioles are now 7-9 overall and 5-6 in the Big 8.
Bronson 40, Mendon 23 (Payton Robinson led the Vikings with 16 points as the Vikings improved to 12-4.)

Coldwater’s J.V. Lady Cardinals improved to 7-10 with a 39-27 win over Northwest. Valy Yaldo led Coldwater with 12 points while Jayda Kelly had nine rebounds.
Middle School Girls Basketball—
The Bronson 8th graders defeated White Pigeon 28-2. Meagan Lasky and Maddy Ratkowski led the Vikings with 6 points apiece.
The Bronson seventh graders lost to White Pigeon 20-9.
