STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Two persons suffered burns and a home in Sturgis is considered a total loss following a Monday morning fire.
The blaze in the 400 block of West West Street was reported at 4:10 a.m.
Sturgis Police reported that everyone inside got out safely before firefighters arrived. They encountered heavy fire in the back of the home.
Due to the age of the home and the nature of the construction, Deputy Fire Chief Andy Strudwick says firefighters had a difficult time reaching the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The amount of damage to the building is reported to be extensive.
The two burned persons were taken to the emergency room at Sturgis Hospital.
(A news release from the Sturgis Fire Department did not give their names or how badly they were burned.)
