COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Developer Rick Gates told the Coldwater City Council on Monday night that his firm is in the process of planning a 24 to 42 unit upscale apartment complex in the area of Northshore Drive and West Chicago.
Interim City Manager Keith Baker says it is on three acres of property that Gates owns across Northshore from the old Federal Mogul site, just south of the Tibbits Green senior apartment complex.
Gates said the land is properly zoned and there is a need for these kind of apartments.
Gates said the buildings would be two stories high and the units would have up to three bedrooms. The rents would be about $1,000 a month. He hopes to break ground later this year.
In other business, the council set a February 27, 2017 public hearing for the transfer of 10 acres at 190 East Garfield from Coldwater Township to the City of Coldwater. Interim City Manager Keith Baker said this covers an expansion at the Fairfield Mobile Home Park.
The council also approved a series of budget amendments to the City’s General Fund for the fiscal year which ends on June 30th which increases the budgeted deficit from the original approved amount of over $583,000 to over $977,000. The increase is due in part to the city paying for a pumper truck with available funds as they move the purchase from 2018 to 2017.
