UNDATED (WTVB) – Grass fires don’t usually start until the middle of March after the snow melts.
But the lack of precipitation this winter and the record breaking temperatures of recent days have led to a number of grass fires in Branch County.
Branch County 911 records indicate there have been at least four since last Friday.
Bronson firefighters were called to 185 West Chicago at about 12:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Union City crews were dispatched to a reported grass fire at 1188 South Road at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday which led to a structure fire at that location later on in the afternoon.
Two grass fires were reported on Sunday. Quincy firefighters were sent to 239 Ferguson Road at about 1:35 p.m. Coldwater firefighters were dispatched 35 minutes later to a grass fire at 516 North Union City Road.
