COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A controversial request to rezone land for a proposed housing development which has sparked a large amount of objections from residents along and near West Pearl Street is scheduled to come back before the Coldwater Plan Commission Monday evening.
Interim Coldwater Planning and Zoning Administrator Dean Walrack told members of the Coldwater Plan Commission in an e-mail last week that the Cleveland area-based developers, the NRP Group, has indicated that they wish to pursue a conditional rezoning as opposed to a traditional rezoning.
NRP has expressed an interest in buying the former Franklin Educational Facility property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools.
The rezoning request is to turn the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi-Family Residential.
A large group of opponents showed up for the January 3rd Plan Commission meeting. Nearly a dozen spoke during a one hour public meeting and raised such concerns as increased traffic, lighting pollution, lowered property values and disruption of the parkland, wetlands and greenspace.
A decision was postponed in order to gather more information.
Any action by the Plan Commission would be a recommendation to the City Council which has final say on the rezoning request.
Also on the Plan Commission agenda will be a request for a special land use permit for a Child Group Day Care Home for 7-13 children that would be located at 123 Walnut.
