STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A 30-year-old Sturgis resident was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught trying to steal a car.
Michigan State Police say the man came to a home in the 29000 block of U.S. 12 in Sturgis saying that he worked at a nearby business and wanted to borrow a screwdriver.
The resident told the suspect to leave which he did but he returned several minutes later.
Troopers say two residents caught him inside of a car parked behind the residence as he was trying to steal the vehicle with a screwdriver.
The man was confronted and then went to a nearby business where he was a new employee.
Troopers went there and arrested the suspect. He was lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of attempted auto theft and trespassing.
Troopers say alcohol use may have been a factor. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending a court appearance.
