COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After getting a negative recommendation from the Coldwater Planning Commission last Monday, a controversial rezoning request is on the agenda for Monday’s Coldwater City Council meeting.
A rezoning ordinance is scheduled to be considered for first reading. At the same time, the Council is scheduled to set a public hearing and second reading of the ordinance for March 13, 2017.
The Planning Commission voted 5-4 against the rezoning request from the NRP Group last week so that they could build an apartment complex.
City Council Member Maureen Petzko motioned for the denial last week. She and Mayor Tom Kramer voted against the rezoning request as members of the Planning Commission. At least two other city council members are also believed to be opposed.
The Cleveland area development group asked that over nine acres be rezoned from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential for a proposed housing development.
The request has been met with strong opposition from nearby residents. In addition, nearly 500 petition signatures against the rezoning have been submitted from all over Coldwater.
Monday’s council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Henry L. Brown Muncipal Building.
