COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man who was charged in connection with crimes involving his father in Bethel Township over three days last July was given a Branch County Jail sentence of 10 months Monday in Circuit Court.
33-year-old Jared David Manifold plead guilty to two counts of felonious assault. In exchange for his guilty plea, another count of felonious assault as well as charges of domestic violence and assault by strangulation were dismissed by prosecutors.
He was given credit for 220 days already served and was placed on probation for two years.
Manifold was arrested after he pointed what turned out to be an empty and inoperable gun at Michigan State Police troopers. Manifold was eventually talked into surrendering and no shots were fired during the standoff.
He has had several mental issues, but Manifold told Judge Bill O’Grady he is a different person these days.
A letter was read during the hearing from Manifold’s father which asked the court to have mercy on his son and that he forgave him.
