COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While a mild winter has reduced the need for emergency heating assistance this year, dozens of volunteers showed up Saturday for the 32nd Annual Walk For Warmth in both Coldwater and Union City.
The fundraising walks were held across the state, with eight walks in the region covered by the Community Action Agency of Southcentral Michigan. In Coldwater, almost $2,000 was collected, with Amerigas also donating over $200 in vouchers to pay for propane. In Union City, 25 walkers raised around $1,200.
Ken Delaney’s Walk Across Branch County Friday raised almost $1,300.
Consumers Energy is expected to match most of the money raised through the walks.
Any money not used for emergency assistance this heating season will be carried over until next winter.
