KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater dominated from start to finish MOnday night as they blasted Battle Creek Central 62-23 in the opening round of the Class A Girls Basketball Districts at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
Coldwater established control early as they jumped out to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter. The lead was built to 39-8 at halftime. A running clock was used in the second half because of Coldwater’s big lead.
McDonald’s Player of the Game Emilee Smoker led Coldwater with 14 points while Tyler Schied added 12 points. Coldwater will take a 16-5 record into Wednesday’s semifinals against Sturgis which will start at 6:00pm. Coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB and on line at www.wtvbam.com will start at 5:30 p.m.
Battle Creek Lakeview defeated Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 58-23 in the second game at Loy Norrix on Monday night. Lakeview will play Gull Lake in the second semi final on Wednesday.
Bronson broke a 29-29 halftime tie by scoring Quincy 20-12 in the third quarter and the Vikings went on to defeat the Orioles 65-61 in the opening round of the Class C Girls Basketball Districts at Bronson.
Kiera Lasky led Bronson with 18 points while four Orioles finished in double figures led by Payton Hines with 15 points. Hannah Economou grabbed 19 rebounds. Quincy ends the season at 7-14 while Bronson will take a 14-7 record into Wednesday’s semifinals against Union City.
Jonesville defeated Reading 38-29 in the other game at the Bronson districts on Monday night. The Comets will face Homer in the second semifinal on Wednesday.
