COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater School Board of Education was unable to come to a decision Monday night on which direction the district should pursue when it comes to a new building following a nearly one hour discussion and a presentation by representatives from Owen Ames Kimball and Tower Pinkster Architects.
Coldwater school officials have been looking at future needs in the district since last spring which would include a new school building to replace Lakeland Elementary.
The district is looking to put together a bond proposal for voters to decide on in November. A final board decision and the scope of the project has to be finalized by May 22nd before it goes to the State Treasury. A community survey is also planned before such a decision is made.
A possible future site of a building for fourth and fifth graders is the current location of the little league diamonds on Western Avenue.
The City of Coldwater owns the land and there have been negotiations between the school district and the city.
As Board Member Clair Dean pointed out, it’s one of three sites being looked at. School Board President Dr Ed Lake said they still have to talk to the city.
Since the board did not take any action Monday night, they decided to hold a special meeting later this week in hopes of getting more information from the city.
If the bond issue is passed, the time line for construction to start in the Spring of 2019 with the building opening in 2021.
