COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater School Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in hopes of coming to a decision on a site for a new building.
A decision was not made during Monday’s meeting following a nearly one hour discussion and a presentation by representatives from Owen Ames Kimball and Tower Pinkster Architects.
Coldwater school officials have been looking at future needs in the district since last spring which would include a new building to replace Lakeland Elementary.
The district is looking to put together a November bond proposal for the new building and infrastructure needs. A final board decision on the scope of the project has to be finalized by May 22nd before it goes to the State Treasury. A community survey is also planned before such a decision is made.
A possible future site for a fourth and fifth grade building is the current location of the little league diamonds on Western Avenue.
The City of Coldwater owns the land and there have been negotiations between the school district and the city.
Others sites being looked are at the northeast corner of Bishop and Green for a seventh and eighth grade building and a fourth and fifth grade building near the water tower on the northwest corner of Green.
If the November bond issue is passed, the time line calls for construction to start in the Spring of 2019 with the building opening in 2021.
