KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinals broke open a close game with a 23 point third quarter as they defeated Sturgis 63-43 in the Class A Girls Basketball District semifinals at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. The third quarter outburst was highlighted by three triples from Izzy Foley as Coldwater advanced to Friday night’s district championship game.
Coldwater’s pressure defense forced the Trojans into 30 turnovers and the Cards also grabbed 25 offensive rebounds on the night. Foley led all scorers with a career high 16 points including four 3’s. Tyler Scheid had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Carlee Crabtree had 11 points and seven rebounds while Malorie Rzepka added nine assists and three steals.
Coldwater improves to 17-5 and will face 20-2 Battle Creek Lakeview on Friday night. Lakeview advanced Wednesday night by defeating Gull Lake 52-41. Lakeview has won their last 19 games since losing at home to the Cardinals 56-54 December 6, 2016.
Class C at Bronson
Bronson 70, Union City 25Kiera Lasky led the Vikings with 14 points as Bronson improved to 15-7 with a 70-25 win over Union City. Allison Adams led the Chargers with seven points as a young Union City squad finishes 2-19. The Vikings will face Homer for the district title on Friday night after the Trojans defeated Jonesville 37-30.
