FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – A Chicago teenager was killed Sunday afternoon in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County.
Indiana State Police say 44-year-old Sean Hubbard experienced a medical condition and temporarily lost his vision. He tried to pull onto the shoulder of the highway when he apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle left the road and entered the ditch, slide sideways, and stuck a tree.
The vehicle was carrying a family of two adults and three children at the time of the crash. Hubbard’s 15 year old son was pronounced dead at the scene from head trauma.
An 8 year old female passenger in the back seat was initially trapped in the vehicle due to the crash.
The Hubbard’s 8 year old daughter and 17 year old son were injured in the crash. The 8 year old passenger was flown by Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Sean Hubbard and his 17 year old son were also taken to Parkview. The adult female passenger in the vehicle was uninjured.
The extent of injuries to the other passengers transported to the hospital was unknown Monday.
