COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Road Commission Engineer Trent Arver thinks crews answered a record number of calls for tree removal Wednesday during the big wind storm.
Arver says they answered 105 calls starting at about mid morning.
A large tree was blown down onto a car at Marshall and Montgomery Streets in Coldwater. No injuries were reported.
The Branch County Memorial Airport recorded wind gusts of 54 miles an hour.
The strong winds dried the air out. The relative humidity got down to as low as 17 percent. The extremely dry could have been a reason at least six grass fires were reported in Branch County on Wednesday.
Due to power problems, Bronson Community Schools were forced to send students home early Thursday morning. They were running on reduced power and could not fix lunches for students. The telephone system for the district was also out.
As of Thursday morning, the Meijer Store in Angola was still closed after part of its roof was blown off and a gas leak took place.
