COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case of a Coldwater woman who is charged with abusing her infant son has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
26-year-old Karah Louise Shepherd’s probable cause hearing and preliminary exam in Branch County District Court had to be pushed back as a forensic exam was conducted to determine if she was mentally competent to stand trial.
She is facing two counts of First Degree Child Abuse as well as charges of Second Degree Child Abuse and First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
Shepherd was arrested following an investigation by the Michigan State Police into alleged incidents between May and July 2016.
According to court documents, Shepherd said during an interview that she got upset with her son because of his crying.
The injured baby was two months old when State Police were called to the Community Health Center of Branch County. The injuries according to documents included broken bones.
Shepherd is scheduled to appear for a Circuit Court arraignment on March 20, 2017.
