COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – City of Coldwater Community Enrichment Director Julie Santure says the transition has gone well after the local Coldwater Little League Board voted to dissolve last fall and the ownership of the Little League fields reverted to the city.
Santure says nearly 300 youngsters have signed up for Little League, which will be operated by the city starting this year. The Coldwater American Amateur Baseball Congress will be handling the older youngsters who want to play in a more competitive atmosphere.
Santure says the Summer Parks program in Coldwater has changed due to state mandates on the amount of time they can watch children.
Interim City Manager Keith Baker reported to the City Council recently that to continue having a full day program would have required the hiring of additional full time staff in order to meet State licensing requirements similar to that of licensed day care providers and Baker said they could not justify that financially.
Despite the change to a half day program, Santure says they will be offering a lot of activities over six weeks starting June 19 for youngsters between the ages of five and 11. It will be held Monday through Friday from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. at Heritage Park.
The fees are $200 for city residents and $240 for non-city residents. The deadline to sign up is May 26, 2017.
