KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 28-year-old Indiana man was apprehended by a Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy Friday morning in northwestern Kinderhook Township following a brief vehicle and foot pursuit. Authorities say the chase maybe connected to the breaking and entering of a nearby home.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Steve Foster saw a vehicle pass him without a registration plate at about 9:00am. Foster tried to stop the vehicle but it continued heading south on Grass Lake Road. The vehicle jumped the ditch at the end of the road and continued south through open fields with Foster in pursuit.
Articles were seen falling out of the bed of the pickup during the chase. One of the items was reportedly a safe. The vehicle turned west in the field toward Walker Road where it became stuck in the muck. After a short foot chase, Foster was able to apprehend the suspect who was identified in a news release as 28-year-old Joshua Tyler Martin of Angola.
A short time after the apprehension, the Sheriff’s Office took a complaint of a Breaking and Entering at a nearby home. Deputies are investigating a possible connection. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Indiana online court records, Martin was free on bond after he was charged with breaking and entering in Steuben County three weeks ago.
