CAMDEN, MI (WTVB) – The Sheriff of Hillsdale County says the death of a man found in a field Sunday afternoon is being investigated as a murder.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department says according to a preliminary investigation, a man in his mid to late 30s whose body was found off of Dimmers Road in Camden Township died from gunshot wounds.
There was no mention of a murder investigation in a news release issued by the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday afternoon. But Hillsdale County Sheriff Tim Parker later told the Hillsdale Daily News that the case is being treated as a homicide.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office in Toledo at the order of the Hillsdale County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The name of the victim has still not been released. Authorities say they will attempt to confirm an identity by DNA samples obtained during the post mortem examination.
Evidence will be taken to the Michigan State Police lab for further investigation.
