COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A pair of Friend of the Court bench warrant forgiveness days are coming up soon in Branch County. The Friend of the Court says forgiveness opportunities are happening at the County courthouse on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and next Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Anyone who has a Branch County Friend of the Court warrant is eligible to take advantage of the event. Officials say the forgiveness allows a payor to resolve a bench warrant without risk of arrest prior to a bench warrant sweep. It also means support can be collected for the families of Branch County.
In addition, it’s a chance to see if there are resources that the court can provide to payors struggling to meet their obligation.
Those applying for the warrant forgiveness need to bring with them a good faith payment in the form of cash or money order of at least 10% of their arrears. That’s 15% less than their statutory bond.
If an applicant is unable to work due to a disability, a note from a doctor is necessary. And last but not least, the Branch County Friend of the Court says bring a good attitude.
