COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Storms which produced heavy rain and strong winds rolled through Branch County late Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service placed Branch and surrounding counties under a severe thunderstorm watch at mid afternoon. A Severe Tunderstorm Warning was issued for the western and northwest portion of Branch County for a short while in the late afternoon.
A weather spotter two miles northwest of Coldwater reported a 55 mile per hour wind gust which snapped and uprooted trees.
At about the same time, the Branch County Memorial Airport reported a wind gust of 46 miles an hour. The temperature also dropped seven degrees in just 20 minutes.
There were social media reports from Three Rivers of hail as large as an inch-and-a-half in diameter.
