PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s record dropped to 8-8 as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Portage Central by scores of 8-4 and 5-2. Bryce Barringer had three hits in the opener while pitcher Cam Barnes struck out seven in four innings of work. Caleb Letendre had two hits in the nightcap.

Coldwater saw its record drop to 8-3 as they lost both ends of a doubleheader at Portage Central 11-1 and 15-8. The Cardinals were held to three hits in the opener. One of them was an Izzy Foley double. Jamie Wellet homered and drove in four runs for Coldwater in the nightcap while Darlene Horn had a double and two RBI’s.

Megan Kurt had four hits and five RBI’s while Katie Newberry had three hits and three RBI’s in the opener. Nicole Jodway also had three RBI’s. Hannah Economou homered and had three hits in the nightcap. Kurt also collected three hits in the second game. Economou and Kelsey Mainstone were the winning pitchers.

The Chargers were held to two hits in the opener. Skyler Herman had three hits including two doubles in the nightcap while RaeAnn Sanders had two hits.

B.C. Pennfield 7, Coldwater 1
Coldwater conceded four goals in a 10 minute stretch early in the second half, and fell at home Friday night to Pennfield 7-1. The Lady Cardinals scored first in the game, as Madison Marsh headed in a throw-in from Malorie Rzepka 13 minutes into the contest. Pennfield tied the score with about four minutes to play in the half. Coldwater gave up a penalty kick goal five minutes into the second half, then three more goals in the next 10 minutes. With the loss, the Lady Cardinals fall to 1-5-1 on the season and 0-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference. They will play at Three Rivers Monday. The Coldwater JV team beat Pennfield 3-0 on goals from Sara Hickey, Audrey Hall, and Abbie Thatcher.

The Coldwater boys were second while the Coldwater girls finished third at the Edwardsburg Invitational on Friday. Mishawaka won the boys meet with 108 points while Coldwater had 85 points and Stevensville-Lakeshore had 47 points. Coldwater winners were Jordan Parkinson in the 1600, Shuaib Aljabaly in the 3200 and Sam DeMeester in the shot put. Coldwater won the 3200 relay. The winners for Coldwater in the girls meet were Elka Machan in the 3200 and Jasmine Wellet in the 100 hurdles.
Both of the Quincy squads finished first on Friday at the Comstock Invitational. Quincy won the boys meet with 143 points followed by Comstock with 134 ½ and Mendon with 125 ½. Bronson finished sixth. The Orioles won six events. Quincy winners were Bryce Ruhl in the 200, the long jump and the high jump, Jonathan Purvis in the shot put and discus and Tyler Moore in the pole vault. Quincy won the girls meet by eight points over Centreville. The Orioles had 151 points followed by Centreville with 143 and Parchment with 79. Bronson was fourth with 71 ½ points. Quincy’s Gabby Porter won the 1600 and the 3200. Other Oriole winners were Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump and Jessica Holcomb in the long jump. Quincy won the 1600 and 3200 relays. Keona Salesman of Bronson won the 400.

Sturgis 7, Coldwater 1The Cardinals got their only point from the #3 doubles team of Gabby Boston and Loveleen Lalia. Coldwater is now 3-3 overall. Their next match is Monday at Parma Western.
—Boys Golf—
Coldwater finished third on Friday at the 18 team Marshall Redhawk Open. Lumen Christi won the event with a team score of 304 followed by Marshall at 318 and Coldwater with a 330. Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge who tied for 6th place overall with a 76 followed by Alec Keplinger who shot an 80, Tanner Bowers carded an 85 while Austin Butler and Cam Bopp each had 89’s.
