PARMA, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split an Interstate 8 high school baseball doubleheader at Parma Western Tuesday. The Cardinals dropped the opener 4-1 before taking the nightcap 5-2.
The split gives Coldwater a 4-2 record in the conference. The Cardinals are 9-9 overall.
Western’s Steele Fortress went the distance as he limited Coldwater to three hits and struck out 10 in the opener. Kam Miller drove in the only Coldwater run. Mitchell Duda struck out five in five plus innings of work on the mound. Andrew Richar had three hits in the nightcap while Bryce Barringer drove in two runs.
Miller was the winning pitcher in the second game as he struck out six in going the distance.
Quincy and Union City split a Big 8 Conference doubleheader that was highlighted by some outstanding pitching on both sides. The Orioles won the opener 3-0 while the Chargers took the nightcap 5-0.
Quincy’s Caleb McCavit tossed a four hitter in the first game. Union City’s Colton Johns struck out 13 batters in six innings of work.
Blade Gordon struck out 10 in six innings of work to get the win in the nightcap for the Chargers. Gordon and Larson Kever combined on a two hitter. Brendan Stuchell collected three hits for Union City.
