COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls varsity soccer team retained “The Battle of the Birds” trophy Saturday with a 2-1 double overtime shootout victory over Quincy. It’s the fifth consecutive year the Lady Cardinals have won the contest.
Madison Marsh scored Coldwater’s lone goal with 22 minutes to play in the first half off a throw-in from Malorie Rzepka. Quincy tied the score on a penalty kick from Haley Bean with 3:27 to play in regulation. Neither team could score in the two 10 minute overtime periods, so the game went to a shootout. The Lady Cardinals made three of their five kicks in the shootout for the win.
Goalkeeper Nadia Kiersey made 10 saves during the game, with another two saves in the shootout for the win.
Coldwater is now 3-5-2 on the season, and will host Jackson Northwest Wednesday in Interstate 8 Conference action.
