BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school golf, Coldwater won the Battle Creek St. Philip Tiger Invitational for the third year in a row Saturday at Binder Park Golf Course. The Cardinals had a team score of 333 which was 23 strokes better than Battle Creek Lakeview.
Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge who was medalist for the event with a round of 75. Coldwater’s Alec Keplinger had a 79 which was good enough for fourth place. Tanner Bowers had an 88, Kyle Herman shot a 91 and Austin Butler rounded out the scoring for Coldwater with a 92.
Coldwater’s varsity will next travel to the Grande Golf Course in Jackson Tuesday to play in the Onsted Invitational.
Only 16 shots separated four teams in a BCS Jamboree held on Friday at Eastern Hills. Bronson finished fourth with a team score of 199. Parchment was first with a score of 183. Centreville and Comstock both finished at 196. Bronson’s Brandon Hyska was the medalist with a round of 40.
—GIRLS TENNIS—
Coldwater finished first in the Paw Paw Rally for the Cure Tennis Invitational on Saturday. Coldwater was first with 18 points, followed by Paw Paw with 16 points, Marshall with 14 points and Niles with 3 points.
First place finishers for Coldwater were Emma Grife at number one singles, Meredith Grife at second singles along with the number three doubles team of Gabby Boston and Loveleen Lalia. Coming in second place for Coldwater were No. 3 singles player Amber Aquire, No. 2 doubles team of Faith Herendeen and Mikayla Daoud. Coming in third were No. 4 singles player Merlyn Johnson, No. 1 doubles team of Allison Eastmead and Emily Foulk and No. 4 doubles team of Melissa Vozar and Payton Molnar.
Coldwater is 9-4. They are scheduled to play at Jackson Lumen Christi Monday.
—MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS—
The Legg Middle School tennis team traveled to Sturgis for an invitational Saturday and came home with a third place finish. Winners on the day were Kelly Warner at number one singles, Victoria Hammond at number four singles, the first doubles team of Bethany Pavlov and Mackenzie Brezovacki, and the fourth doubles pair of Julia Radcliffe and Ryan Sturgeon.
The Cardinals will host Harper Creek Monday night.
