LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff’s Department Posse member Michael Winter, who died last spring after he suffered severe head injuries when he was thrown off his horse during the Quincy Memorial Day Parade, was honored last night at the State Capitol in Lansing.
Winter was one of nine officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2016 that were recognized by the Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors or MI-C.O.P.S. at their 24th Annual Law Enforcement Officers Candlelight Memorial Service.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack attended the ceremony, which included a flower being placed in a memorial wreath and a candle lit in memory of each officer. According to MI-C.O.P.S., the yearly event is designed “to show the families of these heroes, as well as the community, what ‘the Brotherhood’ of law enforcement is all about”.
Winter was buried with full military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
