QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Board of Education last night faced a large audience filled with angry parents who demanded answers about how school officials managed allegations against a former Quincy teacher who was arrested last month and is facing sexual assault charges involving a female student.
Quincy School Board President Alan McClellan read a prepared statement which in part said “We are too shaken and sad when things like this happen. We are looking for answers and for some it can’t come soon enough but it’s a process and there’s a lot to take in and sift through and there’s a legal side that must be considered”.
43-year old Jason Farrell is facing six charges of criminal sexual conduct including two first degree counts. He was employed by the Quincy School District for 20 years. McClellan said last night that along with finding answers, they will be focused on their current policies and procedures, as well as amend, update or replace any that is necessary to keep kids safe and make sure all employees are well versed with the policies.
Farrell resigned in January on the same day the district placed him on leave in connection with the allegations of improper conduct. A number of parents last night made accusations that teachers and administrators ignored warnings about Farrell that came from students along with parents and that the red flags went up long before he was arrested.
A probable cause hearing for Farrell is scheduled for June 1, 2017 in Branch County District Court. He remains behind bars, being held on $300,000 bond.
