COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new five year garbage and recycling collection contract is on the agenda for Monday nights Coldwater City Council meeting.
The current contract with Republic Services expired April 30, 2017. The new agreement will run through April 2022.
The city hired Republic as a third party contractor in 2012 to take care of garbage and recycling collections due to rising costs, the closure of a local transfer station and the need to replace two aging garbage trucks.
The proposed five year contract calls for the monthly household cost to go from $11.61 in the first year to $15.40 in the fifth year.
City Manager Keith Baker says the staff is pleased with the level of service from Republic and they have fielded very few customer complaints.
