COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bethel Township man who set fire to his trailer and resisted police last December was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
Authorities said at the time of the incident that 27-year-old Caleb Campbell was depressed and suicidal.
Campbell entered no contest pleas to two counts of assaulting a police officer as well as to a charge of fourth degree arson.
Judge Bill O’Grady gave him a one year jail sentence Monday with all time over seven months suspended. Campbell was also given credit for 123 days already served and was placed on probation for 18 months.
A misdemeanor charge was dismissed in exchange for the pleas.
Michigan State Police say Campbell set his Block Road trailer on fire and he was also accused of resisting efforts to be handcuffed by State Police and Branch County Sheriff’s deputies. A State Police trooper suffered a minor injury during a brief struggle.
