COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council passed an ordinance on second and final reading Monday night that would enforce liens on the property of Coldwater Board of Public Utilities customers who have delinquent utility charges.
The Coldwater BPU Board approved the ordinance last month.
BPU Director Paul Beckhusen says unlike a for-profit utility, financial write-offs at the BPU are not absorbed or offset by profits.
He also points out these losses are ultimately paid for by the other customers.
The ordinance will take effect in three weeks.
