UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Heritage Cultural Park Amphitheater Project in Union City can now get underway, thanks to a recent donation by the Bruce and Ruth Young Endowment Fund of the Branch County Community Foundation.
Union City Village Manager Chris Mathis says the donation put the village fund up to $64,000, which was what they needed to enter the contract with Schweitzer Construction and start the project. It’s estimated the project will start during the first week of June.
The Youngs have strong ties to the Union City community. Ruth has lived in the Union City School District her entire life, except for when she was away at college. She graduated from Union City High School in 1968. The Youngs were married three years later and have lived in the Union City School District ever since.
Mathis says they are still fundraising for the contingency funds, but this was the donation that got the project started.
