COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police Lt. Jim Coleman told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that according to statistics over the last couple of years, troopers are handling less criminal complaints in Branch County these days. He says calls for service have decreased by five percent over the last two years.
He commended local police departments and the Sheriff’s Department for the level of collaboration, especially on the recent solving of a breaking and entering case and the recovery of nearly $100,000 in stolen items.
Coleman said there are 35 troopers covering the area which is the same as five years ago with just over a dozen troopers dedicated to Branch County.
More troopers are coming on board with 150 scheduled to graduate next month and another 150 in January. They are needed since there is a high number of veteran troopers who are retiring.
