COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 30 year veteran of the Coldwater Police Department will be retiring next month.
City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday nights City Council meeting that Sergeant Jerry Vandenhout will be retiring effective June 14, 2017, which will be his 30th anniversary with the department.
He began his career in Coldwater as a Patrol Officer before being promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 1993. Vandenhout also served as a Detective Sergeant between 1993 and 2013.
Vandenhout has been recognized for his teamwork on investigations and was given a lifesaving award by the department for his efforts to save a drowned child.
Baker says there have been some other changes with the Coldwater Police Department. Administrative Sergeant Patrick Beeman has been promoted to fill the position of Lieutenant. Beeman has served as the leader of the Emergency Response Team. He has also served as an instructor and as a Detective Sergeant. Beeman began his career with Coldwater Police in 1990 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1996.
In addition, Corporal Fred Pyles has been promoted to fill the position of Sergeant. He was hired in 1993 and has been in a supervisory role as a Corporal since 1996.
Coldwater Police also has a new employee as Officer Suleiman Sumbal who came on board two weeks ago and has begun his 17 week field training program.
