COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split their two games in the rain-shortened Stout and Sons Invitational on Saturday at Lowe Field.
The Cardinals rallied to defeat Schoolcraft 3-2 in the first game of the day. Winning pitcher Mitch Duda forced in the go ahead run in the last of the sixth with a bases loaded walk. Duda struck out six in six innings of work to get the win. Alex Everitt recorded the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Eric Bach had a double while Bryce Barringer drove in two runs.
Auburn Hills Avondale won the tournament championship as they defeated Coldwater 6-0. Avondale winning pitcher Brendan Down threw a complete game no-hitter for the Yellow Jackets. With the split, Coldwater is now 16-14.
Before the tournament started, there was a pre-game ceremony recognizing all the contributors to the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary baseball and softball stadium project.
A special plaque was dedicated to the late Rick Gleason for all of his efforts.
