UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The owners of a Union Township home basically lost everything when a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.
The fire on Braucker Road at the corner of Francisco Road, which is southeast of Union City, was reported at about 1:20 a.m.
Union City Fire Chief David Hughes says the total damage is at least $300,000 as the house, a garage, an outbuilding and several vehicles including a semi were destroyed in the blaze.
A husband and wife managed to get out of the house. They and their neighbors reported the fire to 911 Central Dispatch.
The Union City Fire Department called for mutual aid from the Sherwood and Burlington Fire Departments. Tankers had to be used to haul water to the scene. The Branch County Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit was notified. Also on the scene were the Michigan State Police and Life Care Ambulance.
The State Police Fire Marshall’s Office will be assisting in the investigation of the blaze.
