COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of three women from Hillsdale who were accused of shoplifting over $1,700 worth of items from a pair of Coldwater stores last Thanksgiving night was given a one year jail sentence Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
35-year-old Tabitha Anne Bennett entered a guilty plea to a charge first degree retail fraud.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a second similar charge as well as two counts of organized retail crime. There was also no sentencing enhancement.
Bennett was given credit for 178 days already served.
Court documents indicate three juvenile girls were with the three women at the time of the shoplifting.
Authorities say the items were allegedly taken from the Meijer and Wal-Mart stores.
