KINDERHOOK, MI (WTVB) – For the second day in-a-row in Branch County, there’s been an early morning house fire and despite heavy smoke and flames in both blazes, no injuries were reported.
No one was home at a residence on Lake George just north of the Indiana border when a fire broke out with the alarm called in to 911 by a neighbor at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, telling the dispatcher the people living there were on vacation. The house is located on the far northwest side of lake at 1045 Nipigon Beach Road.
The Lakeland Fire Department responded to the scene, finding flames and smoke at the rear of the home. A request for mutual aid for manpower from the Fremont, Indiana fire department was later cancelled.
Wednesday morning, a home in Union Township was destroyed as two occupants were able to escape before the structure was engulfed in flames. The damage total to the home, a garage, an outbuilding and several vehicles lost in the blaze was estimated to be at least $300,000.
