COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The annual Branch Area Best Meet was held on Tuesday night at Cardinal Field. For some of the participants, it was their last tune up before the state finals this weekend. For others, it was their season finale. No team scores were kept.
Union City’s Gavin Hooker won three events in the boys meet as he finished first in the 100, the 200 and the 400. Coldwater winners were Connor Covert in the shot put and discus, Shuaib Aljabaly in the 800, Jordan Parkinson in the 1600, Jacob Fair in the 3200, Adam Bailey in the 300 hurdles and Faheem Abdullah in the pole vault.
Quincy winners were Bryce Ruhl in the high jump and Michael Fisher in the 110 hurdles. Coldwater won the 1600 and 3200 relays while Union City won the 800 relay and Quincy won the 400 relay.
Quincy had five Individual winners and took three out of the four relay races in the girls meet. Quincy winners were Jessica Holcomb in the 100, Harmony Harpster in the 800, Gabby Porter in the 3200, Madelyn Allman in the 100 hurdles and Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump. Union City’s Rachel Wing won both the discus and shot put while her teammate Bracy Swift won the 200.
Coldwater winners were Kathy Potter in the 1600, Molly Smith in the pole vault and Claire Sheppard in the long jump. Bronson’s Keona Salesman won the 400 while Tekonsha’s Kayla Cole won the 300 hurdles. Quincy won the 400, the 1600 and the 3200 relays while Coldwater finished first in the 400 relay.
