ZEELAND, MI (WTVB) – A large contingent of Coldwater Cardinals will be taking part in the MHSAA Division Two Track and Field Lower Peninsula Finals on Saturday in Zeeland. The Cardinals will have 18 individual participants along with two relay teams after the Coldwater boys captured the regional title at Mason two weeks ago while the Coldwater girls finished fourth.
Competing for the Coldwater boys will be Shuaib Aljabaly in the 1600 and the 3200, Adam Bailey in the 300 hurdles and 200 dash, Jaden Coney in the long jump, Connor Covert, Dylan Targgart and Cole Targgart in the discus and shot put, Sam DeMeester, Nathan Spray, Zach Gipple and Colin Klein in the shot put, Zack Murphy in the 800 and Jordan Parkinson in the 1600. Aljabaly, Parkinson, Ben Fagen and Murphy will compete in the 3200 relay.
Competing for the Coldwater girls will be Jasmine Wellet in the 100 hurdles along with the 400 relay team of Madison Klotz, Kelani Phillip, Allison Butler and Claire Sheppard.
Quincy will have 15 athletes in the Division Three Lower Peninsula Finals at Comstock Park. Competing for the Quincy boys will be Nathan Nohr in the 1600, Jonathan Purvis in the discus and Bryce Ruhl in the long jump. Ruhl along with Devan Fisher, Luke Rufenacht and Ryan Gibson will compete in the 400 relay.
Competing for the Quincy girls will be Madelyn Allman in the 100 hurdles, Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump and Gabby Porter in the 3200. There will also be two Oriole relay teams. Haley Bean, Makenzie Blatter, Harmony Harpster and Porter will run in the 3200 relay while Allman, Jessica Holcomb, Mackenzie Horsfall and Claire Supianoski will compete in the 400 relay.
Representing Union City in the Division Three Lower Peninsula Finals will be Gavin Hooker in the boys 100 along with Rachel Wing and Kristeema Wright in the girls discus and shot put. Bronson’s Keona Salesman will compete in the girls high jump.
