ZEELAND, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s track teams recorded two school records and had a champion crowned Saturday at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Lower Peninsula Track and Field Finals in Zeeland.
The Coldwater boys finished second in the final team standings with 42 points thanks to strong performances in the field events. Zeeland East won the team title with 71 points.
Coldwater’s Connor Covert won the discus championship with a distance of 180 feet and one inch. Dylan Targgart and Cole Targgart both earned medals. Dylan was sixth while Cole was eighth.
Coldwater took four of the top eight spots in the shot put after qualifying seven for the finals. All four Cardinals earned medals. Sam DeMeester was third, Connor Covert was sixth, Zach Gipple was seventh and Nathan Spray was eighth.
Shuaib Aljabaly was second in the 3200. Noah Jacobs of Corunna edged him at the tape by 21-hundredths of a second.
Coldwater’s 3,200 relay team of Aljabaly, Jordan Parkinson, Ben Fagen and Zack Murphy finished fourth with a school record time of 7:52.92.
Coldwater’s Adam Bailey was sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.42.
In the girls meet, Coldwater’s Jasmine Wellet finished fourth in the 100 hurdles with a school record time of 15.18.
