COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite a disappointing win-loss record, the Coldwater girls soccer team celebrated both academic and athletic successes at their annual Awards Banquet last night.
For the 5th straight, the varsity girls team was named Academic All State by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association with a combined grade point average of 3.353. Seniors Bracy Groshko and Madison Marsh were also named Individual Academic All State.
Selected Interstate 8 Academic All Conference were Groshko, Marsh, Olivia Foley, Jayda Kelly, Carlee Larimer, Elka Machan, Miriam Solis, and Jasmine Wellet.
Athletically, Marsh, Foley, Larimer, and Malorie Rzepka were named to the All District Team, while Marsh was named to the Interstate 8 All Conference Team, and Rzepka was Honorable Mention.
In awards voted on by their teammates, Marsh and Rzepka were named co-Most Valuable Players, Foley named Rookie of the Year, Brooke Neitzert selected Most Improved, Larimer named Hardest Worker, Meagen Taylor named Best Defensive Player, and Marsh Best Offensive Player. Marsh also received The Coach’s Cardinal Way award.
The Lady Cardinal varsity team finished the season with a 6-11-3 record.
In Junior Varsity awards, Elise Leggett and Whitney Johnson were named co-MVP’s, while Johnson was named Best Defensive Player, Leggett selected Best Offensive Player, and Nicole Adams named Most Improved Player.
