QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Attorney Robert Huber announced during a three hour Quincy School Board meeting on Monday night he has resumed his investigation of two administrators in the district.
This follows some apparent confusion involving Huber and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
Huber read a statement during a special school board meeting on May 26th which was based in part on an e-mail he received from Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Mike Gatke. The e-mail said Gatke didn’t disagree with Huber saying the Sheriff’s Department wanted Huber’s investigation temporarily suspended until law enforcement officials complete their own investigation.
But Sheriff John Pollack said a couple of weeks ago his office made no request to have Huber shut down his probe, contrary to Gatke’s e-mail. Pollack says he doesn’t want to be critical of his Sergeant and prejudge Gatke’s intent in his response to Huber.
Huber has been looking into the conduct of Superintendent Craig Artist and high school principal David Spalding.
They are both on paid administrative leave regarding allegations against former teacher Jason Ferrell.
Criminal sexual conducts charges have been filed in both Branch and Calhoun counties against Ferrell in connection with alleged incidents involving one of his former female students.
In other business last night, the Quincy School Board approved the district calendar for 2017-2018. The first day for students will be on August 22nd with the last day of classes set for June 5th. Commencement is scheduled to take place on June 3rd. The calendar includes a two week Christmas break.
