COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – If you love daylight, today might be one of your favorite days of the year and for those who live in Branch County, it means you have more than 15 hours to bask in the light.
Coldwater and southwest Michigan will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daylight today on the Summer Solstice, the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and locally, it started at 12:24 a.m.
Tthis is also National Daylight Appreciation Day, and according to the National Day Calendar website, it’s devoted to the sun and the many benefits of daylighting. This is a term that refers to the use of natural light to brighten an interior space, as opposed to electric lightning.
The website says not only will it reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint, but studies have proven that daylighting can enhance mental and physical well-being, boost concentration, and energy levels.
