COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man who was charged following the violent attack of a woman in a Bronson home last Thanksgiving morning was given a prison sentence of between three and 20 years on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a guilty plea to first degree home invasion.
25-year-old Jose Guadalupe Martinez-Gamez was also given a one year concurrent sentence after he pleaded guilty as well to aggravated domestic violence.
Six other counts including chargers of torture and assault by strangulation were dismissed in exchange for his guilty pleas.
Martinez-Gamez was given credit for 214 days already served in jail.
He was accused of allegedly suffocating a female acquaintance after breaking into her residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit, she managed to get away and go to a nearby service station where an attendant was told to call 911.
