COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – July and the Independence Day Holiday are rapidly approaching as the one of the highlights of summertime fun across the U.S. begins next weekend. Branch County was super busy with activities the past 3 days and will be buzzing again over the extended 4th of July weekend.
Here are safety tips everyone should keep in mind. Being careful with fireworks whether using or watching the pyrotechnics is always on the list along with safe swimming and boating.
But here’s a couple of items you might not but should be paying attention to beginning with mosquito bites. A leading dermatologist says scratching any bites you get is the last thing you want to do. Doctor Melissa Piliang with the Cleveland Clinic says the more you scratch the more it actually makes the mosquito bite itch. She recommends using hydrocortisone two to three times a day, saying it can help kill the itch and will also help it heal faster.
And then there’s the importance of thinking safety first to avoid getting hurt around a backyard fire pit. Many fire pit injuries happen when people use accelerants to start the fire. The most important thing to remember is that backyard fire pits are an open flame and require lots of caution. Children should be supervised at all times just like they would around the pool.
Finally, make sure the fire is completely out and cool to the touch before going to bed.
