COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new electronic sign for the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater is now operating.
The sign will promote upcoming shows and events at the Tibbits, but it had to be dealt with by city governmental units for almost a year before ordinances were revised last October that would allow limited use of electronic signs in the central business district.
The size of electronic signs in the downtown area were limited to 18 square feet, be no taller than six feet and have to be monument style.
There are provisions in current city ordinances that regulate brightness and other visible distractions.
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney told the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board last month the sign is the second one they received since the first one was damaged when it arrived and had to be refused.
