COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced a pair of garbage ordinances on first reading Monday which would establish a single hauler rate and establish rates for residential refuse collection and disposal. The proposed ordinance would raise the monthly rate for residential pickup by one dollar to $13. It would be $11.75 for seniors.
City Manager Keith Baker said the city refuse fund has been operating at a loss for the past two years and there has been no change to the monthly fee for 20 years.
Republic Services of West Michigan has been collecting garbage for the city since 2012.
The other ordinance would ban gas fired incinerators as a permitted method of refuse disposal.
Final action is scheduled to take place July 24, 2017
