COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Protecting bank customers from every day fraud is a number one priority at financial institutions, whether the crime involves your debit card, your account, or identity theft, on-line or otherwise.
Ginger Kesler from Century Bank & Trust spoke last Thursday to the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club. Kesler said it you are a victim of identity theft or account fraud, you need to call your bank immediately.
According to Kesler, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the bank or be self-conscious about being victimized since you won’t be teased or critiqued for having the fraud occur because you’re not alone and in Kesler’s words, “it happens”.
She said you should also contact your local police and ask to file a report. Even if the police can’t catch the identity thief, having a police report can help you in clearing up your credit records later on.
